Winning Together: NVCD02 Supporter Strategy Newsletter

June 9, 2026 Primary | Early Voting: May 25 - June 5

Together, Our Moment Is Now

History is on our side, and thanks to your support, we’re poised for a breakthrough. In 20 of the past 22 midterm elections, the president’s party has lost ground. Yet in 2026, economic forecasts predict Democrats will gain 10 House seats—enough to retake the majority. Generic ballot polling shows Democrats leading 46% to 35% among registered voters. Progressive candidates are winning across America by running on bold economic policies and refusing corporate money.

Nevada’s 2nd Congressional District is ready. For the first time in over a decade, the seat is open—longtime incumbent Mark Amodei has announced he will not seek reelection. Amodei’s 2024 margin dropped to just 55%, making clear that voters are hungry for change. The affordability crisis is crushing working families. Housing costs have skyrocketed. Healthcare remains out of reach. Student debt destroys dreams.

We have the answer: A Nevada Permanent Fund—modeled on Alaska’s 40-year success—that gives every Nevada resident a share of our mineral wealth. It’s progressive economics that transcends partisan divides. It’s a policy that speaks to conservatives and progressives, rural and urban voters, young and old alike.

What Makes Your Support So Powerful

The Right Platform: Progressive, not status quo establishment politics that gave us Trump twice and handed victories to Amodei. The Nevada Permanent Fund is nonpartisan—it addresses 50 years of economic inequality with a bold, universal solution that works for everyone.
The Right Story: I embody both America’s promise and its inequality. From the fields where my mother picked crops, through homelessness and the criminal justice system, to earning degrees from ASU and UNR—I’ve lived the struggles of working families. I’m a community organizer, small business owner, Bernie delegate, and grassroots activist who’s spent a decade building relationships across Nevada’s diverse communities.

The Right Credentials: BA in Political Science, MPA in Public Administration and Policy, international studies in Madrid, and a PhD from the School of Hard Knocks. I understand policy, but I also understand people.

The Right Coalition: Interfaith, interracial, and intergenerational grassroots mobilization is already set. From UNR students to Indigenous communities, from Latino families to white working-class voters, from union members to small business owners—we’re building the broad coalition that wins elections.

Why We Win

AOC’s Blueprint: In 2018, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez defeated a 10-term incumbent with no political machine and a 10-to-1 funding disadvantage. She won by making her story relatable, targeting non-voters, using grassroots technology, and running on an unapologetically progressive platform while refusing corporate PAC money.

Greg Casar’s Model: In 2022, Greg Casar won in Texas by activating a decade of movement infrastructure—neighborhood networks, church communities, and union relationships. He merged national progressive momentum with local credibility and won with 71% of the vote.

Our Strategy:

We combine AOC’s grassroots energy with Casar’s community infrastructure. We have the right message for this moment: economic justice through a Nevada Permanent Fund. We have the right messenger: someone who’s lived the struggles and beaten the odds. We have the right coalition: diverse, energized, and ready to fight.

The Nevada Permanent Fund: Our Winning Issue

Alaska has proven this works. Since 1982, every Alaskan resident receives an annual dividend from mineral extraction revenues—$1,702 per person in 2025, meaning $6,808 for a family of four. It’s popular across the entire political spectrum with 81% approval. It reduces poverty without reducing work incentives. It’s given Alaska the highest economic equality of any state.

Nevada is perfectly positioned to replicate this. We have 85% of the nation’s lithium deposits—the foundation of America’s clean energy future. Our mining sector contributes $7.9 billion annually. The Thacker Pass lithium mine alone could supply 25% of the world’s lithium demand.

Our proposal: Establish a Nevada Permanent Fund that deposits a percentage of mineral extraction royalties into a sovereign wealth fund. Distribute monthly dividends to every Nevada resident who’s lived here for one year. For a family of four, even $12,000 per person annually means $48,000—enough to cover rent, childcare, healthcare, or emergency savings.

This isn’t a handout. It’s recognition that Nevada’s natural resources belong to all Nevadans. When corporations extract our lithium, gold, and silver, they’re extracting our common wealth. Every Nevadan deserves a share.

Why it wins politically:

Progressives see universal basic income that reduces inequality and ensures corporate profits benefit working families

Conservatives appreciate that it’s funded by resource extraction, not income taxes, and it’s proven in Republican-led Alaska for 40+ years

Libertarians support it as a citizen’s dividend with minimal bureaucracy and maximum individual choice

Working families see direct relief from the affordability crisis

Our Comprehensive Platform

Housing as a Human Right: Massive affordable housing investment, rent stabilization, and down payment assistance for first-time buyers
Medicare for All: Eliminate crushing health insurance premiums, deductibles, and medical debt
Cost-Free Higher Education: Public colleges and universities tuition-free, funded by taxing Wall Street speculation
Green Jobs and Infrastructure: Make Nevada the epicenter of the clean energy economy with good-paying union jobs
Value-Added Tax on Mining: Make corporations pay their fair share to fund our investments
End Endless Wars: Bring troops home and invest those billions in our communities—housing, schools, healthcare, infrastructure

This Is Not About Me—It’s About Us.

We are Battle Born—forged in the fight for freedom and justice. We are descendants of Braceros who fed America, of Zapatistas who fought for dignity, of miners who built Nevada’s economy, of immigrants who crossed deserts for better lives, of Indigenous peoples who’ve stewarded this land for millennia.

We have beaten the odds before. We will beat them again.

AOC showed us that a working-class bartender could defeat one of the most powerful politicians in Congress. Greg Casar showed us that a labor organizer could win in Texas by running unapologetically on progressive values. Now, in 2026, Nevada’s 2nd Congressional District will turn the page to a new era of leadership.

But movements aren’t built by candidates—they’re built by communities coming together to demand change. AOC won because thousands of volunteers knocked on doors. Greg Casar won because he spent a decade building relationships. We will win because we build this movement together.
