The region’s sweeping landscapes, powerful winds, and robust transmission infrastructure position it as a leader in clean energy generation. As the world pivots away from fossil fuels and toward sustainable power, Northern Nevada’s unique assets offer a promising path to economic growth, energy independence, and community resilience.

Harnessing the Wind: A Resource for Prosperity

The winds that sweep across Nevada’s northern plateaus are more than a feature of the natural landscape—they represent an untapped economic engine. According to nonpartisan research from the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), Northern Nevada boasts a high capacity factor for wind power. This means wind turbines in the region can operate at higher efficiency and output compared to many other locations nationwide, making investment in wind energy here especially promising.

By strategically deploying wind farms across these vast open spaces, Northern Nevada can generate significant amounts of clean electricity. On the campaign trail earlier this year, it was profoundly inspiring to witness firsthand the wind farm in White Pine County—an unmistakable testament to the region’s leadership in renewable energy. This not only reduces reliance on out-of-state energy sources but also establishes the region as a net exporter of renewable power. The benefits extend beyond the grid: construction, maintenance, and operation of wind facilities create a surge of local jobs, ranging from engineering and manufacturing to logistics and environmental monitoring.

Building the Green Marshall Plan: Infrastructure and Innovation

Central to this vision is the Green Marshall Plan—a bold initiative I introduced while running for Congress in 2026, and one I will champion again in my 2028 campaign. This plan is aimed at directing substantial investment into sustainable infrastructure projects. It is a modern response to economic and environmental challenges, channeling public and private capital into projects that serve both immediate and long-term community needs.

Under the Green Marshall Plan, Northern Nevada will see the expansion and upgrading of its transmission network, ensuring that clean energy generated from wind farms can be efficiently delivered to homes, businesses, and neighboring states. This infrastructural backbone is critical for scaling renewable energy and unlocking new economic opportunities. Additionally, investments will be made in battery storage facilities, workforce training programs, and advanced manufacturing plants, further diversifying the region’s economic base.

Universal Basic Income: A Safety Net for All

A central pillar of the Green Marshall Plan is its commitment to social equity—a recognition that the clean energy transition must benefit everyone. Revenue generated from renewable energy production and infrastructure development will be used to fund a Universal Basic Income (UBI) program, providing every Northern Nevada citizen with a monthly stipend of $1,300.

This UBI serves as more than a financial cushion. It empowers residents to pursue new career opportunities, start businesses, retrain in emerging industries, or simply have peace of mind during times of economic change. The security provided by UBI is especially vital for workers transitioning out of traditional energy sectors or those affected by automation and shifting labor demands. By offering tangible support, Northern Nevada ensures that the energy revolution uplifts all members of the community.

Environmental Stewardship and Community Resilience

The transition to wind energy is not just an economic imperative; it is an environmental one. By reducing dependence on fossil fuels, Northern Nevada can dramatically decrease its carbon footprint, improve air quality, and protect the natural landscapes that define its identity.
