Health Care for Every Nevadan—A Core Commitment of My Campaign

Subject: Health Care for Every Nevadan—A Core Commitment of My Campaign

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

As a candidate for Nevada’s Second Congressional District, I want to share with you the heart of my campaign: a relentless commitment to universal health care for all Nevadans. Health care isn’t just a policy issue for me—it’s a moral imperative. No one should ever have to choose between seeing a doctor and putting food on the table, or between filling a prescription and paying rent.

What does “universal health care” mean in practical terms for Nevada? Here’s my comprehensive plan to make it a reality, rooted in compassion, fiscal responsibility, and a vision for healthier communities across our great state.

1. Federally Funded Health Centers in Every County

Too many Nevadans—especially in our rural and frontier communities—live hours from the nearest doctor, clinic, or emergency room. I pledge to establish federally funded health centers in every Nevada county. For our most remote communities, we’ll deploy mobile clinics equipped to provide primary care, preventive screenings, and urgent medical attention. Health care should come to you, not the other way around.

2. Championing Medicare for All

I am a proud supporter of Medicare for All. This means every Nevadan, regardless of income, job status, or pre-existing condition, will have health insurance. No more surprise bills, no more gaps in coverage, and no more fear that a medical emergency will lead to bankruptcy. Medicare for All will be a game-changer for families, small businesses, and our entire health care system.

3. Forgiving Medical School Loans for Rural Providers

Our rural communities face a chronic shortage of doctors and nurses. I will champion a federal loan forgiveness program for medical professionals who commit to practicing in rural Nevada. This will incentivize more talented providers to serve where they are needed most, ensuring that every community has access to quality care.

4. Expanding Residency Programs and Telehealth

It’s no secret that providers are more likely to stay in the communities where they train. By expanding residency programs in Nevada, we can grow our own health care workforce. I’ll also work to expand telehealth, making it easier for Nevadans in every corner of the state to consult with specialists and receive ongoing care, regardless of distance.

5. Protecting and Expanding Medicaid—No Harmful Work Requirements

Medicaid is a lifeline for thousands of Nevadans, including children, seniors, and people with disabilities. I will fight to protect and expand Medicaid—without imposing harmful work requirements that shut out those who need help most. Health care is a right, not a privilege.

6. Keeping Rural Hospitals Open

When a rural hospital closes, it can devastate an entire community. I will advocate for targeted funding and support to keep our rural hospitals open, modernized, and fully staffed. This is critical not only for health care, but for local jobs and economic security.

7. Building Mental Health and Addiction Treatment Centers

Nevada faces a mental health and addiction crisis, but too many people can’t get the help they need. I pledge to build and expand community-based mental health and addiction treatment centers, ensuring timely, affordable, and stigma-free care for everyone.

8. Capping Prescription Drug Prices and Empowering Medicare to Negotiate

No one should have to skip doses or ration medication because of cost. I’ll fight to cap prescription drug prices and allow Medicare to negotiate directly with pharmaceutical companies. This will bring down costs for everyone and save taxpayers billions.

9. Creating a Community Health Worker Corps

Health care is about more than just doctors and hospitals—it’s about trust, outreach, and education. I will launch a Community Health Worker Corps to help Nevadans navigate the health system, connect with resources, and improve public health at the grassroots level.

A Vision for Nevada’s Future

My vision is simple: a Nevada where everyone has access to the care they need, when they need it—without fear, stigma, or financial ruin. These aren’t just promises; they’re actionable steps I’ll fight for every day in Congress.

Together, we can build a future where health care is a right for all, not a privilege for a few. I humbly ask for your support and your vote in the upcoming election. Let’s ensure that every Nevadan, from the heart of Reno to the farthest reaches of rural Nevada, has the chance to live a healthy, dignified life.

Onward, together,

Gamy Enriquez, MPA
Candidate for Congress, Nevada’s Second District
