Battle Born for Liberty: An Independent Democrat Vision for Nevada’s Future
Dear Friends and Neighbors,
As we approach the 250th anniversary of American independence, our nation stands at a crossroads. This isn’t just another election year—2026 marks a quarter-millennium since our founders pledged their lives, fortunes, and sacred honor to the cause of liberty. Here in Nevada’s Second Congressional District, we face a choice just as profound: will we recommit ourselves to the ideals of freedom and democracy, or allow fear and complacency to erode the rights generations have fought to defend?
I am Gamaliel “Gamy” Zavala Enriquez, and I am the only independent Democrat in the race for Congress in NCD-02. My campaign is not fueled by billionaire donations or establishment party machines. It is built on the belief that regular people—our neighbors, our workers, our families—deserve a government that represents them. As a community organizer, small business owner, and lifelong Nevadan, I know our state’s spirit is battle born, and I am ready to fight for you.
Liberty at a Crossroads: Lessons from History
History teaches us that the tools of tyranny used abroad eventually come home. After 9/11, America was told it had to choose between liberty and security. We passed laws like the PATRIOT Act, expanded surveillance, and engaged in wars with no clear end—all in the name of safety. But as our founders knew, and as history confirms, freedom is not a luxury to be discarded in times of crisis. It is the foundation of our democracy.
We must remember that the greatest advances in American history came when we expanded liberty—abolishing slavery, extending civil rights, and upholding equal justice under law. Our darkest chapters have come when fear drove us to restrict those freedoms. Today, mass surveillance, indefinite detention, and attacks on civil liberties threaten the very core of our constitutional order. The lesson is clear: security should never come at the expense of our rights.
A Progressive, Independent Vision for Nevada
Nevada’s Second District needs more than business as usual. We need leaders who will:
End Perpetual War: Repeal the 2001 Authorization for Use of Military Force. No more blank checks for endless conflict. Let’s redirect resources from failed wars to real threats: climate change, health, and economic security.
Restore Civil Liberties: Reform overreaching surveillance laws, close Guantanamo, end extrajudicial killings, and restore habeas corpus. Our government should protect, not undermine, your rights.
Advance Racial Justice: Dismantle systems of oppression, end qualified immunity for police, and reckon honestly with our history. The security state has always fallen hardest on communities of color—we must ensure equality under the law for all.
Protect Democracy: Defend voting rights, secure our elections, and hold those who threaten democracy accountable. The events of January 6 showed us democracy is fragile. We must never take it for granted.
Face Real Security Threats: Invest in climate resilience, public health, education, and infrastructure. The threats to our future are not only foreign—they are here at home, and they require bold, people-first solutions.
Why Independence Matters
As the only independent Democrat in this race, I am not beholden to party bosses or corporate donors. I answer to you. Billionaires will not save us, and neither will establishment candidates who talk about change but are funded by the very systems we must reform. Our campaign is powered by volunteers, grassroots donors, and people who believe that democracy means a government of, by, and for the people.
The primary on June 9 is not just a procedural step—it is the defining moment for our district’s future. Early voting begins May 23. If we want real change on the ballot in November, we need to show up now. Every vote, every volunteer hour, and every dollar matters in this fight.
Battle Born—Battle Ready
Nevada’s motto is “Battle Born” for a reason. Our history is one of resilience, independence, and courage. This year, let’s live up to that legacy. Let’s choose liberty over fear, hope over cynicism, and people over profit.
Join me. Donate what you can. Volunteer your time. Talk to your neighbors. Get involved. Together, we will show that ordinary Nevadans—not billionaires, not party elites—will decide our future. The stakes could not be higher, and the time is now.
Early voting begins May 23. The primary is our chance to put real independence on the November ballot. Let’s make history—together.
In solidarity and hope,
Gamaliel “Gamy” Zavala Enriquez Independent Democratic Candidate for Nevada’s Second Congressional District
Battle Born for Liberty. Battle Ready for Change.
