A New Path Forward for Nevada's 2nd Congressional District: 26 Areas of Convergence That Unite Us All in 2026
To my fellow Nevadans—progressives, conservatives, and everyone in between:
For too long, we've been told that we're too different to work together. That liberals and conservatives can never find common ground. That the only choice is between corporate-backed politicians who serve billionaires and special interests rather than the people of Nevada's 2nd Congressional District.
I'm here to tell you that's a lie—and I'm running for Congress to prove it.
The Failure of Our Current Representation
Mark Amodei has failed us. He doesn't believe in democracy—he believes in the corporate state. He's voted time and again to protect the powerful while ignoring the struggles of working families across Northern Nevada. Billionaire Greg Kidd offers no real alternative—just more of the same plutocratic politics that have hollowed out our communities and shipped our prosperity elsewhere.
Neither of them supports the fundamental reforms that could transform our district, our state, and our country. But I do.
26 Areas of Convergence That Unite Left and Right
I'm running as an independent Democrat committed to convergent action—bringing together the best principles of progressivism and conservatism to dismantle the corporate stranglehold on our government. Here are the 26 areas of convergence I will fight for in Congress:
Accountability & Transparency:
1. Require annual DOD budget audits and disclose all government budgets because secrecy destroys accountability
2. Establish rigorous procedures to evaluate corporate welfare claims, bailouts
3. Promote efficiency in government contracting and spending
Economic Justice for Working Families:
4. Adjust minimum wage to inflation so hardworking Nevadans can actually afford to live here
5. Introduce taxation reform and regain uncollected taxes from wealthy tax dodgers
6. Break up the "Too Big to Fail" banks that crashed our economy
7. Expand charitable contributions to increase jobs and mobilize "dead money"
8. Give taxpayers standing to sue immunized governments and corporations
Restoring Democracy:
9. Further direct democracy—initiative, referendum, and recall
10. Push community self-reliance and local power
11. Clear away obstacles to competitive elections by ending gerrymandering and big money dominance
12. Defend and extend civil liberties for all Americans
Education & Constitutional Government:
13. Enhance civic skills and experience for students
14. End unconstitutional wars and enforce Article 1, Section 8. Congress alone declares war.
15. Revise trade agreements to protect US sovereignty, ending fast-track authority
Protecting People Over Profits:
16. Protect children from commercial exploitation and harm
17. End corporate personhood. Corporations are not people.
18. Control more of the commons we already own
19. Get tough on corporate crime with real penalties and enforcement
20. Ramp up investor power and create watchdog agencies
Health, Environment & Freedom:
21. End the failed war on drugs
22. Push for real environmentalism that protects Nevada's treasures
23. Reform health care to serve patients, not insurance company profits
24. Create convergent institutions that bring Americans together
Constitutional Rights & Liberties:
25. Defend the Second Amendment and protect lawful gun owners from government overreach. The right to keep and bear arms is fundamental to American liberty—and that means holding federal agents accountable when they violate the constitutional rights of law-abiding citizens. Support universal background checks and red flag laws with robust due process protections while ensuring that exercising your Second Amendment rights can never be treated as justification for government violence.
Why This Matters for Nevada
Progressives: These reforms will break corporate power, protect workers, restore democracy, and fight for environmental and social justice.
Conservatives: These reforms will restore constitutional government, end crony capitalism, promote fiscal responsibility, protect individual liberty, and return power to communities.
We agree on more than the establishment wants us to believe. We both know the system is rigged. We both want accountability. We both believe in the Constitution. We both love Nevada and want our children to thrive here.
26. The Nevada Permanent Fund or Universal Basic Income: Sharing Our Wealth
But I'm not stopping there. I will fight to establish a Nevada Permanent Fund, modeled on Alaska's successful program, that ensures every Nevadan shares in our state's natural resource wealth. Our gold, silver, lithium, and other minerals belong to all of us, not just mining corporations. It's time we got our fair share.
This fund would provide annual dividends to every Nevada resident, creating a basic economic foundation that respects both progressive values of shared prosperity and conservative principles of property rights and individual economic freedom.
What I Will Do in Congress
When you send me to Washington, I will:
Introduce legislation for all 26 areas of convergence in my first term
Build coalitions across party lines with the principled members who put country over party
Fight relentlessly against corporate welfare, unconstitutional wars, and the erosion of our civil liberties
Champion the Nevada Permanent Fund so every family benefits from our state's resources
Hold town halls in every corner of the district. I work for you, not donors.
Refuse corporate PAC money—I'll be accountable only to the people of Nevada's 2nd District
Audit the Pentagon and redirect wasted billions to infrastructure, education, and healthcare
Restore Article 1 powers to Congress and end executive overreach
Break up monopolies that crush small businesses and innovation
Protect our public lands while ensuring communities benefit from responsible resource development
A Choice, Not an Echo
This election is about more than partisan labels. It's about whether we continue down the path of corporate control and democratic decay, or whether we choose a new direction: one that honors both progressive ideals and conservative principles, one that puts people before profits, and one that restores government of, by, and for the People.
James Settelmeyer won't fight for these reforms. Greg Kidd won't either. They're part of the problem.
I'm offering you a solution: a progressive alternative with a vision that transcends the tired partisan divide. Together, progressives and conservatives can be unstoppable. Together, we can take back our district, our democracy, and our future.
Join me. Let's make history.
The choice is yours, Nevada. Let's choose convergence over division. Let's choose democracy over plutocracy. Let's choose a future worthy of the Silver State.
