Prepared to Lead: Real-World International Experience for Nevada’s Future

In this race for Nevada’s 2nd Congressional District, I am the candidate with the most extensive real-world international relations experience—and I will be ready to lead from day one. My training as a career diplomat at one of America’s top public schools for world affairs, under the mentorship of the late Ambassador David Fisher, directly prepared me to understand and address the world’s most complex challenges. Ambassador Fisher’s role in the Strategic Arms Limitations Treaty with the Soviet Union and in assisting with German reunification after the Berlin Wall fell exemplifies the level of expertise I was privileged to learn from firsthand. I also broadened my perspective through an internship at the World Affairs Council in San Francisco, where I deepened my understanding of global issues and the importance of international engagement.

In 2003, I furthered my international education by studying at Complutense University—the “Oxford of the Spanish-speaking world”—in Madrid, Spain. During that pivotal year, I witnessed history up close: I stood alongside thousands in the streets, participating in the protests against the invasion of Iraq. That experience impressed upon me the profound consequences of global decisions and the importance of listening to both our allies and the people affected by American foreign policy.

Today, as Marines are being sent to Iran without a clear goal, we find ourselves at a crossroads that feels eerily familiar. In fact, this moment coincides with the anniversary of the invasion of Iraq—a sobering reminder of the consequences of entering conflict without a defined mission or exit strategy.

In today’s rapidly changing world, the stakes for America—and for Nevada—could not be higher. The ongoing crisis in the Middle East, including Iran’s evolving military and economic strategies, shows why Congress needs leaders who are not just observers, but practitioners of international affairs. Iran’s adoption of a mosaic military and government strategy, its capability to absorb strikes and retaliate, and its willingness to wage long-term economic and energy warfare against global markets are just a few examples of the complex realities America faces. These are not abstract threats—they impact energy prices, global security, and American interests right here at home.

My experience goes beyond the classroom. I have lived and worked in countries across several continents, gaining firsthand insight into the power of diplomacy, the importance of alliances, and the risks America faces when unprepared. In my career, I have seen how effective diplomacy can prevent conflict, open new markets for American goods, and foster international cooperation. I have also witnessed the consequences when America’s voice is absent: adversaries gain ground, opportunities are lost, and our allies question our resolve.

As Congress confronts issues like protracted wars, shifting alliances, and the growing global influence of countries like China, Nevada needs a representative who understands what’s at stake. Too often, America’s leaders have underestimated the duration and complexity of modern conflict—leaving us unprepared for the economic, strategic, and human costs. I am the only candidate in this race who has been trained to anticipate, analyze, and respond to these challenges from a global perspective.

When Iran or any other adversary tests our resolve, or when world events threaten Nevada’s families and businesses, you can trust that I have the judgment, experience, and skills to represent our interests and protect our future. I am proud to offer voters a record of proven international leadership, grounded in real-world experience and a commitment to putting Nevada first. In a time of uncertainty, experience matters. My promise to you is that I will bring the most prepared, globally aware voice to Congress—ready to serve and deliver for Nevada from day one.
