Nevada’s Rural Crisis: The True Cost of the Iran War Fertilizer Betrayal
Dear Friends and Neighbors,
Over the past year, since Donald Trump returned to office in 2025, Nevada’s rural communities have been battered by a wave of serious economic problems. Prices for everything—from groceries and gas to farm equipment and fertilizer—have reached all-time highs. Small businesses and family farms are struggling to stay open, and hardworking families are forced to make tough choices just to get by. This crisis did not happen by accident.
Trump’s return brought with it the DODGE agenda—a set of reckless policies that have only made things worse. His tax cuts for billionaires have stripped resources from working people and handed even more power to the wealthiest.
As an independent Democrat and your candidate for a new direction, I feel I must speak out about how these growing problems have pushed our rural communities to the edge. The policies of the past year, both at home and abroad, have not just let us down—they have broken the trust of hardworking Nevadans. Our current representatives, from Mark Amodei to Donald Trump and the Republican Party, have put corporate profits and political gamesmanship above the needs of the people they claim to serve.
The recent jump in fertilizer prices, caused by the effects of the Iran War, is hurting Nevada’s farmers, ranchers, and rural families. Fertilizer, which is essential for growing the food that feeds our state and country, has become so expensive that many local producers are struggling to survive. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the agency is investing in domestic fertilizer production in nine states to increase competition and lower fertilizer costs for American farmers, aiming to ease the financial strain on farms and lower food prices for consumers.
These rising costs ripple through the entire rural economy. When our farmers and ranchers struggle, so do the truck drivers, feed stores, equipment dealers, and small businesses that depend on agriculture. Jobs are lost, families are forced to move, and communities that have lasted for generations are now at risk of disappearing. Food security, which we once took for granted in Nevada, is now a real concern as fewer local producers can afford to stay in business. Rural communities are facing deep challenges as the war with Iran drives up fertilizer prices and threatens the stability of the agricultural economy, according to the Los Angeles Times. Instead of supporting local farmers during this difficult time, Representative Mark Amodei, Donald Trump, and the Republican Party have not taken effective action to protect their own supporters. They have allowed big business and foreign entanglements to come before the needs of Nevada’s hardworking families. While they attend fundraisers with corporate lobbyists and promise more tax breaks for billionaires, rural Nevada is left behind. Our rural communities are paying the price while billionaire CEOs and special interests make record profits—even as our local schools, hospitals, and roads face devastating budget cuts.
It is a betrayal, plain and simple. The party that once claimed to champion the working class has abandoned the very people who built this state. We need leaders who understand that rural America’s struggles are not a footnote—they are the heart of our nation’s story. We need representatives who will put people before profits, and community before party.
But there is a better way. I am running as an independent Democrat to bring real solutions to Nevada:
The Freedom Dividend: A basic income of $1,300 per month for every Nevadan, paid for by the billionaires and big companies—like Tesla, Amazon, and the mining industry—who have made huge profits while our communities struggle. This monthly payment is not merely a handout; it offers vital support to help people recover financially, rebuild Nevada’s rural economy, and ensure residents can cover essential expenses regardless of changes in Washington or on Wall Street. According to a report from Fortune, rising fertilizer prices driven by tensions in the Strait of Hormuz and the Iran war are making it harder for farmers to plant crops like corn, so having $1,300 a month could make a significant difference for struggling farmers, single parents, young adults, or retired couples on a fixed income. I will always prioritize the needs of our local farmers, ranchers, and working families over foreign conflicts or the interests of big business. I promise to fight for fair prices, good schools, affordable healthcare, and better roads and services in rural areas. I will work to break up the control of big companies and make sure our government puts our communities first, not the profits of huge corporations. Rural Nevada deserves a real advocate, not someone who just goes along with bad policies.
Accountability and Independence: No more betrayals just to follow a party. I answer only to you, the people of Nevada. My independence means I cannot be bought or pushed around by either party. I will listen to everyone, especially those who are often ignored by politicians in Carson City and Washington, D.C. When you elect me, you get someone who will always put Nevada first, no matter what the political cost.
It’s time to put people before politics and prosperity before partisanship. Let’s build a future where every Nevadan can afford to live, work, and thrive—no matter what party you belong to. We owe it to ourselves, our children, and our grandchildren to stand up and demand a new path. Nevada’s rural communities are the backbone of our state. With your support, we can restore hope, rebuild our economy, and ensure that no one is left behind—ever again.
Join me in demanding change. Together, we can reclaim Nevada’s promise for ourselves and for future generations.
