Defending Our Democracy: The Real Threat Behind Recent Georgia Actions
Dear Friends and Supporters,
I’m reaching out today with an urgent message about a threat to our democracy that’s playing out right before our eyes—and what it means for the future of our elections, not just in Georgia, but across the nation.
What Happened in Georgia Is a Warning to Us All
Recently, we’ve seen a deeply disturbing development in Fulton County, Georgia: a raid that resulted in the seizure of 700 boxes of ballots. While this may seem like a local story, make no mistake—Georgia is a microcosm of a much larger and more dangerous plan. It’s a preview of the kind of voter suppression and intimidation tactics that extremist elements within the Trump administration want to deploy everywhere during the 2026 midterms.
Manufacturing a Crisis to Seize Power
The pattern is clear. President Trump and his allies continue to repeat the lie that the 2020 election was riddled with fraud and foreign interference—claims that have been repeatedly debunked by courts, election officials, and independent observers from both parties. But this isn’t just about the past. It’s about creating a pretext for future action. By sowing doubt and mistrust, they are laying the groundwork to justify draconian measures in 2026: seizing voting machines, restricting mail-in ballots, and interfering with the way people vote, how votes are counted, and how elections are certified.
A Coordinated Effort to Suppress the Vote
We are already seeing the playbook in action. The primetime address Trump is planning to give this evening, on July 16, 2026, will no doubt feature the same tired, debunked claims of fraud. But this is not just about rhetoric. It’s about building a narrative—a narrative specifically designed to justify unprecedented intervention in our elections. The goal is simple: to make it harder for you to vote, to cast doubt on legitimate results, and ultimately to undermine the foundations of our democracy.
If we look at the moves being made by the administration as a whole, the pattern is unmistakable. Every action, every falsehood, every legal maneuver is part of a broader strategy to challenge the electoral process itself. This is not just about one county or one state. It’s about a concerted effort to influence the outcome of elections across the country. The raid in Georgia is just the beginning.
Why This Matters Now?
The 2026 midterms are around the corner. If we allow these actions to go unchallenged—if we let lies about the 2020 election become the justification for new rules and unprecedented interventions—then the very nature of our democracy is at risk. Free and fair elections are not just a tradition; they are the bedrock of our republic. Every citizen has a right to have their voice heard and their vote counted. We cannot let anyone, regardless of their position, take that away from us.
What Can We Do?
First, we must stay informed and vigilant. Don’t let misinformation cloud your judgment. Seek out reliable sources, question extraordinary claims, and look at the facts. Second, we must speak out. Now is the time to raise our voices in defense of our democratic institutions. Contact your representatives, share this message with your friends and neighbors, and demand accountability from those in power.
Finally, we must organize. Protecting our elections requires more than words—it requires action. That means volunteering, supporting voting rights organizations, and making sure that every eligible voter is registered and able to cast their ballot without fear or intimidation.
I also want to take this opportunity to endorse Cisco Aguilar for reelection as Secretary of State for the Silver State. Over the last four years, Secretary Aguilar has done an outstanding job defending voting rights, increasing election transparency, and modernizing our election infrastructure. Notably, Secretary Aguilar implemented internet voting for Nevada’s Indigenous communities, allowing them to vote online just as servicemen and women are able to while overseas—a significant step toward ensuring equitable access to the ballot box. Under his leadership, Nevada expanded access to mail-in voting, implemented stronger cybersecurity protections, and ensured timely and accurate vote counts—even under intense national scrutiny. His commitment to fair elections and dedication to all Nevadans make him the clear choice to continue safeguarding our democracy.
The Bottom Line
The falsehoods about the 2020 election are not just a matter of opinion—they are part of a calculated effort to justify massive interference in the 2026 midterms. Every move being made is designed to build a narrative that will pave the way for unprecedented intervention, challenging not just how people vote, but whether their votes are counted at all.
Although I did not win my primary for Congress, I remain deeply committed to protecting our democracy. We cannot stand by while our fundamental rights are threatened. We must rise together—united in hope and determination—to defend the integrity of our elections and ensure that the will of the people prevails. Every effort matters, and together, we can bring about the change our nation needs. I invite you to join this movement for a more just, inclusive, and hopeful future. Thank you for standing with me in this fight.
In solidarity,
Gamy Enriquez, MPA
Former Candidate for Congress, NVCD-02
