A Union of the Americas: The Constructive Path Forward for the 21st Century

Dear Friends and Supporters,

As we approach the June 9th primary (with early voting starting May 23rd), our nation stands at a critical juncture—not only in choosing leadership for Nevada, but in determining America’s role in the Western Hemisphere. I am Gamaliel Zavala Enriquez, the independent candidate with the deepest international relations experience in this race, and I want to address a pressing development that affects us all.

In the last 24 hours, the headlines have confirmed what once seemed unthinkable: there is now active U.S. military involvement inside Mexico. American personnel and assets are engaged in joint operations with the Mexican government, targeting drug cartels and supporting border security. While these efforts are framed as necessary responses to crime and migration, they have brought new tensions and raised serious questions about sovereignty, effectiveness, and the future of U.S.-Mexico relations.

This escalation—moving from rhetoric and proposals to boots on the ground—carries real risks. History teaches us that military solutions abroad, especially in Latin America, often create more problems than they solve. The presence of foreign troops can inflame local resentments, destabilize fragile regions, and damage the trust essential for true partnership. Already, this new chapter in U.S.-Mexico military cooperation is fueling public debate and anxiety on both sides of the border.

We Must Choose a Different Path The challenges we face—migration, organized crime, economic instability, climate change—are not problems that military might alone can solve. They are deeply interconnected issues that require trust, innovation, and cooperation across national boundaries. We need solutions that build bridges, not more walls or armed interventions.

Europe once faced similar challenges after World War II. The United States responded with the Marshall Plan, investing in recovery and unity. The result was the European Union: a model of nations working together to secure peace, prosperity, and stability. In contrast, the US has too often relied on short-term military interventions and enforcement strategies that do not address root causes.

A Union of the Americas: A Bold, Constructive Alternative It is time for a vision as ambitious as our challenges. I propose a Union of the Americas—a partnership of nations from Canada to Argentina, working together for the common good of our hemisphere. This new alliance would:

  • Integrate our economies for shared growth and opportunity

  • Build cross-border infrastructure and clean energy networks

  • Cooperate on climate, public health, and migration management

  • Strengthen democracy and human rights through mutual respect

Such a union would create a regional market of one billion people, unleashing innovation and opportunity for all. It would also provide a positive alternative to the influence of outside powers like China and Russia, who are expanding their reach in our backyard.

Why My Experience Matters

Our district needs leadership that understands the complexity of these international issues. My career in international relations, political science, and public administration has prepared me to advocate for forward-thinking solutions. As the only independent candidate in this primary with this depth of experience, I will ensure Nevada’s voice is heard in shaping a new era for the Americas.

This election is not just about choosing a candidate—it’s about choosing a strategy for the future. Do we double down on old patterns of intervention, or do we invest in partnership, prosperity, and peace?

The Path Forward

Let’s move beyond the politics of fear and reaction. Let’s reject the false choice between doing nothing and resorting to military solutions. Instead, let’s build a Union of the Americas—one that addresses the real causes of instability and creates lasting progress for all our peoples.

Join me in this vision. Mark your calendars for June 9th, and remember that early voting begins May 23rd. With your support, we can show that Nevada—and America—are ready to lead with hope, wisdom, and unity.

In solidarity,

Gamaliel “Gamy” Zavala Enriquez Independent Candidate, Nevada’s 2nd Congressional District

P.S. The future of our hemisphere demands leadership with international vision and experience. Let’s build a stronger Americas together.
