A Plan for People, Planet, and Prosperity: The Green Marshall Plan
I am the only truly independent Democratic candidate in this race—and I’m running on a bold vision: the Green Marshall Plan. This plan is the international equivalent of the Green New Deal or the Inflation Reduction Act, but with a key difference: it must be used to fund a Universal Basic Income (UBI) for all Americans, inspired by the Alaska Permanent Fund and Norway’s Sovereign Wealth Fund. My Freedom Dividend proposal will ensure every American receives a guaranteed $1,300 a month, for generations to come.
This isn’t just a policy idea—it’s a strategic response to the twin crises of climate change and economic inequality. By investing in renewables, we can create millions of good-paying jobs at home and abroad, save Nevada families and Americans thousands of dollars every year, and reduce the undue influence of special interests like the Israel Lobby. Most importantly, we can end perpetual wars fought over fossil fuels and restore America’s global leadership in the 21st century.
For the last half-millennium, the nations or empires that have dominated the world stage have done so by controlling the energy of their era—the Spanish and Portuguese with the energy of enslaved people, the British with steam, and America with oil. Now, as the world pivots to renewables, it’s time for Nevada—and America—to lead again. No other candidate is talking about a Green Marshall Plan. That’s what makes me truly independent, progressive, and the best choice for Congress.
The Urgent Necessity of Energy Independence
The current climate crisis highlights the pressing need for a global transition toward renewable energy to ensure both environmental stability and national security. Bill McKibben, a renowned climate activist, argues that our reliance on fossil fuels is fundamentally flawed, as demonstrated by the volatility surrounding the Strait of Hormuz. While geopolitical conflicts disrupt traditional oil supply chains, solar energy remains an abundant, domestic, and increasingly cost-effective alternative that does not depend on vulnerable international shipping routes.
Geopolitical Risks and Energy Security
The recent escalation in regional tensions, specifically concerning Iran, has exposed the inherent dangers of global dependence on fossil fuels. McKibben emphasizes that fossil fuels are not only environmentally destructive but also strategic liabilities. Because oil supplies can be easily blocked or manipulated through localized geopolitical conflicts, nations are realizing that true security lies in decentralized, homegrown energy sources.
• Strategic Autonomy: By investing in renewables like wind and solar, countries can insulate their economies from the extreme price volatility and supply chain vulnerabilities associated with oil-producing regions.
• Economic Viability: Contrary to outdated claims that green energy is prohibitively expensive, it is now the most economical method for power generation. China has emerged as a global leader by prioritizing manufacturing and infrastructure, proving that rapid deployment is both possible and strategic.
The Existential Climate Threat
Beyond geopolitical instability, humanity faces severe environmental challenges that demand immediate action. Scientists are currently tracking alarming shifts in global weather patterns and oceanic systems that pose long-term risks to civilization.
Environmental Instability: Rising temperatures, worsening wildfires, and the development of super El Niño patterns are accelerating the rate of climate change.
Systemic Collapse: Research into the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation (AMOC) suggests that a tipping point could be reached within this century. The potential collapse of this heat-distributing system would result in catastrophic outcomes, including plummeting temperatures in Europe and rapid sea-level rise along the U.S. coast.
A Call for Rapid Transition
The United States currently finds itself in a paradoxical position. While it remains a top oil producer, it lags in the urgent, systemic shift toward clean energy that other nations are pursuing out of economic necessity. Despite political resistance from some sectors, the reality remains that 95% of new electric generation globally last year came from renewable sources.
• Individual and Collective Action: Initiatives such as balcony or plug-in solar are empowering citizens to contribute to this transition, regardless of their housing situation.
• The Path Forward: While we may not be able to entirely halt global warming, the rapid deployment of clean energy remains the most critical tool for mitigating the most severe outcomes of the current environmental crisis.
Conclusion: The Green Marshall Plan—A Solution for Nevada and Beyond
The intersection of geopolitical strife and ecological degradation creates an undeniable mandate for change. By pivoting to renewable energy, societies can secure their independence while working to preserve the stability of our planet’s climate. A Green Marshall Plan is the strategic solution to our transition to environmental justice—conserving our environment, creating millions of domestic and international jobs, and saving families thousands of dollars every month as we move away from dirty fossil fuels. This plan will reduce the undue influence of the Israel Lobby, curb perpetual war, and enable us to maintain global leadership in the 21st century. Nevada can and must lead the way—and I am the only candidate with the courage and independence to champion this vision for a better future.
